Research: How to make a short film
Hey, welcome back! I have watched the video on 'How to Make a Short Film' and gathered some key points that I can utilize in my film. One of the first tips that stuck out most to me was, do not go with your instinct, regarding the plot. Most likely if I am anticipating a scene to make sense I can predict the others and what will occur afterwards meaning that the audience may be to. This leaves no room for suspense or the element of surprise putting the viewers attention at risk. Instead using theme to dictate and guide the story in which influence how the characters act is best. In addition, not only does film sequencing come to light when needing to make a superior film but the actors too. If the actors in the film do not give their best effort it can look sloppy and lazy. For example, a character running through a forest. They must be giving it their all, not just jogging. All intricate details will pop up on the camera revealed to the audience so it is vital to give it your all. Sound must not be neglected. If the equipment one is woring with regarding picking up on sound is not the best, do not film something with lots of dialogue. Regarding post processing, also known as editing, after finishing it is best to leave it for a day or two as some details needing to be tweaked can be noticed after. I have used this strategy in the past for my previous films and definitely will be using it again. For this film, it will require lots of post processing and sequencing clips in which mistakes can occur unknowingly. By also having friends or family review the footage the film can be seen completely in a different perspective opening new doors for editor. When cutting clips and it seems to be alright, cut more then after start adjusting. This technique is new to me but I will forsure use this for this film. In my previous films I found difficulties in the duration of the clips, being too long. I had thought it would have been fine at the end but the film was not short anymore. This resulted in me having to review the footage numerous times and going back to cut clips and resequencing them.
