Bad Deal is deeper than just being an action thriller film. My film is about a criminal injustice, a mafia crew negotiating a “bad deal” with an individual, thus how the film acquired its name. Everyone knows the general concepts of crime and unlawful manners that happens in everyday life, but some do not experience it. This can disconnect people from crime which they can become oblivious to. This is where my film comes to life. Bad deal represents crime in which the audience go on a journey with the mafia and witness all the crookedness behind the scenes. For example, in the first scene where two of the actors were bonding, laughing, and being jolly followed by one of those actors, Shelly, being kidnapped and Marcus making the attempt to retrieve her. Viewers had the ability to sense a feeling and reflect on this scene as their loved ones or themselves can be taken away at any given moment unfortunately. This is displayed when Marcus begins to grieve at that very moment and panic, not knowing what to do with himself afterwards. In the following scenes Marcus was able to retrieve his best friend. After getting her, she went behind his back and ended their friendship in a very cruel way. The purpose of this scene was to show how corrupt people may be, even your loved ones. As the years go on in life, crime is as well, “Bad Deal” is here to represent this to the audience and bring awareness to one another. Although, some may bring to light even after watching the film that Marcus brought these tragedies to himself working with the mafia but, it can also be argued that he still acted upon himself to save his friend and admit the mistakes he’s made in which the plot twist occurred, backstabbed by his “best friend.”

Without branding, there is no film, at least that is the way I learned it. For my film to bring to light the criminal injustices in the world to the audience, the film needs viewership. That is why I created a postcard, website, and abundance of different social media platforms. In this way, throughout my Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube I was able to advertise Film festivals, and outings where this film will be premiered at. At these film fests, “Bad Deal” will have the chance to win awards which in return brings a good reputation to my film. Doing so will attract potential viewers to watch the film. Along with trending in awards, I built a website for clear reasons. The website worked very similarly to the social media platforms. Except, on the website I input a synopsis, reviews, images, further information about the film, etc. In both my website and postcard, I decided to use the same pictures to represent mafia and the cover art of the film. This creates synergy and easy recognition. I further utilized the traction I can gain from my social media by putting direct links on the website on the bottom of each page. By clicking each social media icon, it would direct the viewer to our social media in which they would be able to find further information and or updates on the film. I made sure to connect elements in the film such as scenes to and post it as teasers on Instagram to keep viewers interested in the movie. In the postcard I was able to easily create a QR code in which if an individual was to get ahold of it first, they would be able to redirect to my website in which they would gain more intel about the film.

Branding and promoting is important and all but individuals and viewers are not the ones interested in that, and they do not have to be. To make the film entertaining and appealing is what the audiences care about. I learned that too much of anything can be bad, so I took this information and related it to the film. I did not want my film to be too seriously focused but more balanced throughout. In other words, my thriller action film presented a range of entertaining factors such as both serious and funny moments. This may seem unusual in an action film, but that is what separates my film from every other basic film, Bad Deal Is all about being different. Despite some jolly moments throughout the film, I did not want this to be the main goal of the film, because it would be considered a comedy. The mafia members represented both seriousness and some comedic aspects by messing around and abusing their power at some points while still humbling and bringing Marcus back down to reality. With the large range of emotions actors experience throughout the film have the chance to appeal to everyone uniquely. For instance, one viewer might relate to having a deep friendship in which they lost due to betrayal, and another viewer might see the comedic aspects as the best parts of the film. In addition, I added realistic sound effects and small clips which enhance realism and create suspense to the scenes. Particularly in the fighting scenes, I added quick black screens overlayed with a rapid pumping heartbeat. This tactic I used leads the audience to be immersed in the film, making them impatient to see what will happen next. This also takes the audience through the venture of my goal, bringing light to crime.

It seemed easy to produce a film at first glance, but when I began my research on the genre and other films, I began to realize how hard it is. In conduction of my research the goal was to learn how to market a film, produce a thriller action film, and proper acting. During my prior projects I never had the chance to promote my films, I never really thought of how I would either. This year I had gotten the idea before I started my filming process, then suddenly, coincidentally, I began the process of marketing for my film. I inquired from research that most use film festivals to their advantage to market their film to the public. As films earn awards and viewership the film gains status and begins to trend in which more people would be tempted to watch. I did this exact tactic for my film. Since my target audience would be teenagers, I decided the best form of marketing would be through social media platforms. In other production films I have noticed that they use marketing strategies by usually putting images or small hints about the film in their posts which gives a buildup of suspense following the film release. I utilized this by combining my knowledge from research and from what I saw from filmmakers. Instead of simply importing a picture into my profile page I decided to do that but overlap the most interesting scene with the title of my film. The intense fighting scene I used will instantly attract outsiders who may not have heard of the film and will be drawn to the title. Individuals begin to remember words, places, and films in this scenario by big bold letters repeated. Although, from all my research, the majority of short films tend to be 10 minutes in length or longer. This is the part where I struggled the most in the conventions of filming and editing. I had less time for plot and the development of the characters, it was still important for the audience to know what was happening through the scenes. But, with precision and proper planning I was able to edit what and what was not needed from the knowledge I have gained from my conduction of research.
