Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full length movie
Hey guys, welcome back to my blog. I will be going over and comparing the movie 9, the short and full lengths films.
Short Film:
Today we're going to be looking at the short film "9" by Shane Acker. This film is about a story of a ragdoll living in a post-apocalyptic world, terrorized by monsters taking the ragdoll's souls. Due to the short length of the movie this lead to a simple plot focused on three characters with no dialogue. These three characters were the ragdoll's 9, 5, and the monster. This film was also made with CGI but poor quality because of the low budget. It is clear to intel what is happening throughout scenes even with the lack of dialogue. The diegetic sound comes from the characters weaving in and out throughout the setting and other creaks and effects of the creatures movements. Conventions of this short film consist of a simple storyline, variety of strong emotions, and special effects also known as CGI. Editing ranged from a variety of jump cuts alongside with wide range, tracking, and close up shots. There was also much foreshadowing in which how the film will end in the beginning parts of the film. Overall this short film is well put together, it is short and has its suspense through the action incorporated in the movie.
Full Length:
Now looking at the full-length film, 9, similar to the short film following the same plot living in a post apocalyptic world where a monster hunts ragdolls to collect their souls. Due to a lengthier film the plot is better developed. In addition, opposed to the main focus only consisting of the three characters it is expanded. In this full-length film dialogue is another aspect added. A larger budget for the making of this film increased effects as well as adding others, CGI being used once again. Conventions added are the range of shots, editing, and other Mis-En-Scenes. There is small plots between each character with their individual personalities building the scene. This appeals strong emotions as the audience have he ability to relate to them. Sound effects are a major part of this movie, characters do not have any source of communication through speech but through their actions.
Comparison:
In comparison the short length film is similar to the full-length movie, although there is its differences. The short length movie contains a more spooky feeling to it as well as appealing more emotions within its film. In addition opposed to the short length, the full-length movie creates dialogue and background of the characters and their development through time. This adds story and more plot to the full-length movie. There is more meaning in the full-length as settings and such are developed and are explained through the film, the short length does not have a reason for any of the settings.
