  Movie Conventions Research: The Hangover

What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie

have?
What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?
What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

In The Hangover this film contains an abundance of farce comedy. Some scenes also use physical comedy, for instance, the actors are all drunk after a night out in Vegas and are always falling and crashing into objects. In one of the scenes one of the characters accidentally drives their car into a police car and tries to escape. This led to a series of slapstick mishaps. Another convention used in the scenes is the improbable situations the characters went through. To further elaborate, the characters went through highly improbable situations that they have to navigate from. One scene that displayed this was the characters ending up on top of the roof trapped with a tiger, which they must tranquilize and transport safely without being caught. The absurdity of the situations generate humor throughout the movie. There are many scenes back-to-back from waking up in a trashed hotel room with no memory of the night before to discovering a tiger in the bathroom makes it comedic. With a tiger being in the bathroom it can also lead to a surprise factor as well. In addition, the character humor also contributes. Each character has their own quirks allowing the actors to play off of each other's interactions creating humor. I loved most of the elements that was presented to the viewer in this movie. To start with, I enjoyed the humor, its physical comedy and situations was always absurd and over the top. Another convention I desired was the features each character had. Characters had their own unique personality, and they were able to bounce off each other tying it all together. Alongside, the unexpected plot twists and turns made the film more humorous, nothing was predictable and all over the place. Although, there were some conventions I did not prefer via lack of originality, and some jokes made. The plot of the movie, waking up from a night out clueless has been most commonly compared to most comedy shows and movies with similar premises.  Some jokes made can be taken offensive making select viewers uncomfortable which brings my rating down for this movie.
